+Ok first of all, in the Three Arrows video (TA) I have an issue with how he translated "gestaltungsanspruch", I would say that this is about having a _part_ in how to shape these things, not having a leading role. The leading role would come from the fact, if anything, that Germany is a huge economy in Europe.

+Now I don't think that we should be doing anything without the European Union. German Rearmament should happen for the sake of Europe, and for the sake of defending Democracy on the European Continent.

+I can also understand the concern about the idea that a far-right German government will inherit this military. But I think we also need some clarification on figures, and how this money is spent in terms of influencing the military. (because for example, things like procurement can have outsized influence on things like this - it is incredibly difficult and suddenly spending on multiple large programs can be really really expensive) While it is true, that even Europe alone would probably be able to resist a near-future invasion by Russia, it would probably be cut a bit closer than we want, and I do think that the quote "If you want peace, prepare for war" has some truth to it, and is something that you don't want to take a chance at.

+Let's also be clear that I am not a fan of the current German government in a lot of ways, I despise the idea of cutting the social spending, and not leveraging money from other sources, and not being as stupid about tax cuts, Germany has many problems, but I think that we also have the capability to fix them, it's just that with the current political climate some of this has proven way more difficult than you would think.

+Now TA did give some examples of Germany using it's somewhat hegemonic economic power in the video to influence European politics (apparently for the worse, though maybe that doesn't entirely matter)

+This also fails to address the issue: yes, Europe would be ready to fight Russia. From my limited knowledge I think that Europe would be ready to fight Russia and would probably win, probably win handily, and given the Russian's a bloody nose that I don't know if they would want to risk, but I am not sure if Europe is ready to compete on a world stage. Russia is by far the most waning world power that is out there, it's GDP is similar to that of some weaker European countries, it's military industrial complex, sure has a lot of experience, but also is plagued by corruption, and lack of intelligence (brain-drain, not that Russians are stupid). Maybe, with the current instability in US politics and with the clear emergence of China as an international world power, and maybe India some day to follow in the not too distant future, maybe Europe should also be taking a role that could compete, with a complex that can develop weapons to match China and the USA. Not for the sake of perpetuating global conflict, but simply for the sake that I don't want to be the bitch of a US government that is deteriorating at an astonishing rate, an authoritarian Chinese or Indian government.
